SportChassis M2 Freightliner Trucks at Coolhorse

Watch our web site or drive by our lot in Amarillo, Texas, and there is a good chance you will see one or two used, low mileage Sportchassis trucks from Freightliner. These are built on the M2 Business Class chassis and the conversions are done by Sportschassis out of Clinton, Oklahoma. There are many different brands of 4 door mid-sized trucks to choose from such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, & International but we tend to gravitate towards the Sportchassis. Our opinion is they are the most comfortable riding truck on the market. Although slightly rougher than a 1 ton truck and a bit noisier, they may actually have a tighter turning radius, more visibility, more braking capacity, and more stability than a 1 ton pickup truck. You'll also notice more headroom in these trucks. Pop the hood and most of the "pre-emmision" trucks (before 2007 and older models) on the road could have 3 different engines. A 330 HP Cummins, 330 HP Mercedes, or the 300 HP Cat. You'll always find the Allison 6 speed automatic transmission on them which is very reliable. The Sportchassis truck's interior is very consistent and extremely comfortable for this type of trucks. Standard features include navigation, back up cameras, air ride front leather seats, power leather rear seat, cruise control, engine brake, bed dump valve, air brakes, tilt steering, power locks and windows, two 50 gallon fuel tanks, Blackwood woodgrain accents on the dash as well as doors and ceilings, and mood lighting strips in the ceiling. We are often asked how many miles can be put on these trucks. Although we would expect these to be 500K trucks and motors, we've never seen one of these trucks with more than 300,000 miles. They tend to be used hauling horse trailers, boats, and race trailers as opposed to "long haul" trucks so are rarely used like the big trucks. We love to stock the extra clean trucks with less than 60,000 miles. Another question is hauling capacity. They are rated at 26,000 lbs of tow rating. Top speeds tend to be approximately 90 MPH and average fuel mileage ranges from 7-9 MPG on the pre emmision trucks depending on load and speed.
