Choosing your kid rope from Coolhorse
kelly |
There are lots of different “kid” ropes to choose from, so it can be hard to decide which one is right for you or your little one. I am going to tell you some of the differences between the ropes to hopefully help you pick. Poly ropes are used mostly for calf roping, while nylon ropes are used more for team roping. Most of the kid ropes are going to be a blend of the two types with some exceptions. They will also come in a variety of lengths from 17’ to 30’.
Pee Wee from Cactus Ropes
This rope is 17’ in length with a smaller diameter than most. It is a straight nylon rope. It does not include a rawhide burner on the honda.
Chicken Rope from Choo-Choo Ropes
This is a very popular rope for our smaller customers. It has a very small diameter for those smaller hands. At 18’ long, this rope is a great size for kids just learning to swing a rope.
Fire Cracker from Classic Ropes
This rope is going to be similar in size to the Chicken Rope. The diameter is 3/16”, and it is also 18’ long. This rope is a nylon/poly blend.
Lil Pistol from Cactus Ropes
This is our smallest poly kid rope. It will have a little less “bounce” than the blended ropes. This rope will have a little bigger diameter, but is still only 18’ long.
Xtreme from Classic Ropes
The Xtreme is a very popular rope. It is small enough for kids to rope the dummy, or each other, but long enough for adults to play around with. We sell a lot of these to goat ropers. It is a nylon/poly blend that is 23’ long and just a little bigger than the Fire Cracker at ¼” diameter.
Xplosion from Cactus Ropes
The Xplosion is part of Trevor Brazile’s Relentless line. It is a great rope for anyone to use. It is 23’ long, and again, a nylon/poly blend. If you want to be the best, you might as well use what the best use.
Kid Rope from Cactus Ropes
This rope is going to be similar to the Pee Wee from Cactus, only it is longer at 24’ and it does include the rawhide burner. This rope is straight nylon.
Sizzler from Cactus Ropes
This rope is going to be a little bit of a step up from some of the shorter ropes. It is 28’ long so young ones can start learning to rope a steer dummy and have enough length to get it around the horns.
Shock Wave from Cactus Ropes
This rope is going to be a step up from the Lil Pistol from Cactus. It is straight Poly, so it is perfect for learning to rope calves. This rope is 28’ long so it is long enough to break-a-way calves off a horse. This rope is going to be an 8.0 Poly. Most of the other calf ropes are going to start around a 9.0, so this is just a little smaller around.
Money Maker from Classic Ropes
This rope is still considered a kid rope to me, but it is 28’ long and has a 5/16” diameter, so it is long and heavy enough to start roping steers with. It is a 3 strand rope. This rope is great for beginner ropers, or even ropers who just like a little smaller, lighter weight rope to head with.
Zoom from Classic Ropes
This rope is going to be very similar to the Spydr from Classic. This is a 4 strand rope that will have more weight, but keeps the smaller 5/16” diameter. It is 30’ long, so again, it would be a great rope for beginners to start with, or ropers who like a little less weight to their rope.
