Steps are an option that can be added to different locations
on your trailer. They are constructed of aluminum and are
normally welded to the side of the trailer. The most common
placement for a step is a living quarter trailer. It
is common to put a fold up step at the escape door and inside
the rear tack. This makes it very easy to get in and out
of your trailer and tack room as well as reach the top saddles on your saddle tree. The 7' and 7’6” wide
trailers usually come with running boards so it is less common to add steps to a trailer like this. On 8' wide trailers, running boards are rare (and very narrow if equipped), so in most cases, we do prefer to add a fold up step. The aluminum types of steps that fold up are manufactured by Platinum and cost approximately $200 installed or you can purchase online for $164.99.
The pull out step shown on the Trails West trailer below (white trailer, diamond plate step) costs approximately $150 installed.
