GENERATORS
Generators,
once you have used a nice one, you'll be hard pressed to go without
one or with the little economical one from the hardware store.
Push a button in the LQ and run your new Onan or Generac for
up to 60 hours without refueling. There are many different
options when it comes to which brand we recommend, placement
of the generator, and fuel tank size/placement. Roof mounted,
rear tack, and mangers are the more common places we install
most generators. You can usually expect to pay $3,800-$5,000
to add an Onan or Generac generator, fuel tank, remote start,
additional 12V battery and wiring to your trailer. Prices do vary depending on location, fuel tanks, generator compartments, etc..
Gasoline generators are our most popular choice when it comes to types of fuel but LP and Diesel are also available.
4000 Watt is also the most popular "size" of generator and can handle almost any load that is placed on it. You do have to manage use of the air conditioner and microwave simultaneously, this can trip the breaker on a 4000 watt when run at the same time. Both Onan and Generac generators, when purchased new, come with a 3 year warranty and recommend to be serviced every 150 hours.
One other option that we've had great luck with is the portable Honda EU3000 model pictured at the bottom of this page. Unlike the brands that we "install", this is a completely self contained unit and will be about half the price of the Onan or Generac and is still very, very quiet and can handle most trailer living quarter's electrical needs. Cost on these are $1,895.
