Terminology
Air Conditioners – Should you choose the option of
an air conditioner, there are two choices: ducted and
non-ducted. Ducted air conditioners work like the air
conditioners in your home with a thermostat to regulate cooling. Non-ducted
units release all of the cool air from the unit itself which
is located on the ceiling. Click here for more information on installing AC's.
Axles - The horse trailer industry has generally gone to the rubber torsion axle over the last few years as compared to the spring axles. There are less moving parts on these axles which equal less maintenance, while providing a smoother ride. Click here for a simple way to calculate axle and tire requirements for trailers. Air ride axles are also available to deliver a smother ride to your cargo. These are self contained and are very similar to the air ride systems you see in the over the road semi trucks and trailers. They usually include their own air compressor system to maintain air pressure of 80-110 lbs in the air bags between the trailers frame and axles. You can expect to pay between $5,500 - $7,500 on most systems, depending upon the axles. Although it can be installed after market, installation during construction of the trailer tends to be more cost efficient.

Awnings - awnings are attached to the side of your
trailer and allow protection from the sun and rain. Standard
awnings, two-step awnings and electric awnings with a wind
sensor are all options. These awnings vary greatly
in size and price. Awnings are a great option to add
after purchasing a trailer. Click to view more information.
B
Blanket Bars, swing out- Swing out blanket
bars are an option that can be added to a trailer at the
time of ordering or purchase. This is a great way to take
up less space and allows more room in your tack rooms. It
also allows your pads to breathe on both the top and bottom
to dry out quicker than when they are stacked directly on
each other or on your saddles. Click here for more information.
Pros: Easier to keep pads organized, clean, and they
dry much quicker.
Cons: When adding the swing out blanket bars to rear tack
doors, you can sometimes run into problems on space between
your door and saddle racks. Three or four bulky pads on your
rack combined with larger types of saddles (16” team
ropers, ranch saddles, cutting saddles, etc..) can sometimes
make your rear tack door difficult to shut. (back to top)
Bunk Beds – Bunk beds are a great option when you
are trying to sleep several children. A standard bunk
bed is 30 inches wide and 72 inches long. While these
dimensions are adequate for most children, a large child
or adult might find these sleeping arrangements a bit ‘tight’. Fold
down bunks are an option, as well, however support walls
are required for such bunks, which limits the layouts that
can be used.

C
Carbon Monoxide Detector – Your CO
detector is designed to protect you from carbon monoxide
poisoning. Carbon Monoxide is a by-product of generators,
cars and trucks.

Central Vacuum – Central vacuums are an option offered
by Outlaw Conversions. At the present time the product is
a Dirt Devil. The vacuum comes with a 22 foot hose
and seven attachments.
Chairs – Outlaw offers several different options for
chairs. The amount of floor space in the lq largely
determines what type of chair can be placed there. Styles
include: swivel chair, box chair w/ ottoman, recliner
and euro chair w/ ottoman. Prices differ according
to type of chair and upholstery used.

Closets - Everyone wants LOTS of closet space in their trailer.
Closet space is dictated by how many other options are included
in an interior.
For example, a large shower or vanity can take up wall space
that might normally be used for closets. On a custom order
it is possible to design your own closet with drawers, rods
or adjustable shelves.

Cook Tops – We offer three different types of cook
tops: two-burner, three-burner and a three-burner with
oven. The two-burner cook top is the most popular,
because it takes up the least amount of space, however, all
are easy to use. Lighting the two-burner cook top requires
a match or lighter. The three-burner cook tops are
self lighting with piezo knob to ignite gas quickly. (back to top)

D
Dinettes – Dinettes are a great option for seating
several people at a table. Dinettes can be built as
small as 60 inches total length or as large as 84 inches
total length. The width can also be customized to meet
each customer’s needs. Dinettes do fold down
to make a bed.

DVD/VCR Players – Entertainment equipment such as
a DVD or VCR player can be found in most LQ trailers. While
VCRs are becoming more and more obsolete, they are still
an option. Many people opt for a VCR/DVD combo which allows
you to utilize both systems. These units are wired directly
to your television.

E
Exterior Barbecue Grills – Grills are available in
side mount or slide out styles. Side mount grills simply
attach to small brackets on the side of your trailer and
hook in to the LP connection. They are easily stored
in a manger and can be added after the sale. Slide
out grills require a little more planning. Stored in
a compartment that is built into the shell of the trailer,
a slide out grill pulls out of its compartment for grilling
and then slides back in after use. Because it is part
of the shell, a slide out grill has to be built when the
trailer is built and cannot be added after the sale. (back to top)

F
Fire Extinguisher – Meeting safety standards, all
LQ trailers are equipped with a fire extinguisher.

Fresh Water Holding Tanks – Having fresh water in
your LQ is important. Fresh tanks supply the sinks,
toilet and shower with water. The amount of fresh water
storage that is available in a trailer is determined by the
amount of space to place the tanks. Thirty, 40 and
60 gallon tanks are available. However, when space
allows it is possible to place more than one tank in the
lq.
Furnaces – To heat your LQ, you have two different
options: single direct discharge and a ducted unit. Units
are located at floor level and are both LP gas operated. (back to top)
G
Generators – Most LQ trailers come with built in generators. These
generators are predominantly Onan and come with a remote
start and a self- contained fuel tank and fuel lines. The
size of the fuel tank can vary depending on the space available
for its placement. For those trailers that do not have
a built in generator a portable option is available. These
units are gas only and require a manual start. Click here for more generator information.

Gray and Black Holding Tanks – All trailers that are
RVIA are equipped with a gray holding tank. If a toilet
is in the trailer then a black tank is also required. These
tanks hold the waste water from the sinks, shower and toilet. Waste
tanks are generally 23 to 27 gallons in an Outlaw Conversion
and 15 to 19 gallons in a Trails West. An upgrade option
is to add auto dumps which makes dumping your tanks a little
less messy. (back to top)
H
Hay Racks - With the needs of large amounts of storage required when hauling horses, hay racks have become a very popular option on most horse trailers these days. As the name implies, the primary use is for hauling hay down the road but is not limited to only hay. Other uses include water caddy placement, bucket storage, feed storage, bicycle transport, luggage racks, wood shaving bag storage, and generator placement to name a few. There is normally 3”-4” of clearance from roof to bottom of hay rack so pop up vents on roofs are not blocked. Air does still flow between bottom of hay rack and top of roof. Click here for more information.
Heat Strip - A heat strip is located on a non-ducted air
conditioner unit.
Although is acts as heat 'deterrent' it is not adequate to
actually heat a trailer. Some other type of heat will be
necessary. (back to top)
L
Load Lights, Halogen - Helps to increase visibility all around trailers, including sides, back, mangers, ramps, & under the nose. They run off your house 12 volt battery or tie into your existing trailer lights which will allow them to run off your vehicles battery. In most cases, independent toggle switches are mounted on the trailer to turn light off and on. Normally mounts on the roof cap or sides of trailer. Click here for more information.
LQ Flooring - Vinyl flooring is standard in interiors done
by Outlaw Conversions. Upgraded floors are hardwood and tile.
Vinyl flooring is the most durable of the three. Hardwood
flooring is beautiful but can show scuffs. Many people are
interested in tile flooring because it is such a practical
option in a home, however, there is a possibility of tile
cracking when installed in a trailer due to movement and
flex of the trailer. Trails West also offers a laminate flooring.

LQ Lighting - The main light source in an LQ is the lighting
in the ceiling.
This can be standard lighting, which are individual lights
that are normally operated at the light itself, or indirect
lighting, which is sometimes referred to as recessed lighting
and is operated from a wall switch. Other lighting in a trailer
may be decorative sconces, reading lights, vanity lights,
courtesy lights (located at floor level to allow limited
light at night), automatic closet lights, and track lighting.
All light sources operate on 12v. (back to top)

M
Mattresses – All of our new living quarter trailers
come with a mattress. This mattress is standard and
is comfortable for most people. For customers with
back problems a Days End mattress provides extra support
and comfort. The Days End mattress, a therapeutic memory
foam mattress, is an upgrade but most people find it well
worth the money. All mattress come in full, queen,
king and custom fit.

Microwave/Convection Ovens – While
most trailer interiors today have some type of microwave
oven, many will have a microwave/convection. This oven
will allow you to both microwave and bake. How easy…pop
popcorn and bake a cake all in the same oven!

Power Vents/ Fantastic Fans – Power vents are
typically located in the bathroom area of the LQ. This
vent allows for air circulation. A Fantastic Fan works
in much the same manner as the power vent, however, it can
be set on a thermostat to automatically raise and circulate
air as the temperature in the room rises or lowers. The
Fantastic Fan also has a rain sensor which tell the vent
to close if it gets wet.

Propane Bottles & Uses – Liquid propane is contained
in bottles located under the nose of your trailer. Propane
from theses bottles is plumbed into the trailer to operate
your refrigerator, furnace, hot water heater, cook top and
in some cases your generator. These bottles come in
20 lbs., 30 lbs. and 40 lbs. and are equipped a regulator
system and LP detector for safety.

Propane Gas Leak Detector – Your propane detector
is designed to warn you should there be a propane leak in
your trailer. Items in your trailer that run off of
propane will not function if this detector is turned off. (back to top)

R
Refrigerators – There are several different sizes
of refrigerators. We offer a 2.0, 3.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0,
12.0. The 6.0, 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0 also have the option
of an ice maker. All units are able to run on LP gas
or electricity, with the exception on the 2.0 which runs
on 12v only.

S
Safety Items - CO, LP and Smoke Detectors – All
LQ trailers are equipped with adequate safety features for
your protection.
Satellite Systems – Dish Network and DirecTV are both
options when purchasing a satellite system for your living
quarter. This makes adding your receiver to your home
account easy. Normally people choose to purchase a
stationary unit, but in-motion satellite systems are available.

Showers - There are several styles and sizes of RV showers.
The size of the bathroom in the living quarter will largely
determine the shower size.
Because showers are raised approximately 6 inches off of
the floor of the trailer, it is suggested that a skylight
be placed above the shower. This gives several extra inches
of head room in the shower.

Sinks - Standard sinks in an Outlaw Conversion are fiberglass,
in both almond and white or stainless steel. A single bowl
sink is 15" x 15". A double bowl standard sink
is also available. Some upgraded sink options are small & large
porcelain, copper, stone, hammered stainless. These sinks
all vary in size. Stand sinks for Trails West trailers are
a stainless galley sink and a small oval plastic sink in
the bathroom. Trails West also offers the option of a hammered
copper upgrade.

Slide Outs – Slide outs are a great option to add
floor space to a trailer. Slide outs are built in 12
inches increments starting a 6ft. The arm mechanisms
that operate the slide generally occupy 10 to 12 inches on
each side, thus a 6ft slide out will take up close to 8 ft.
of wall space. This can often be deceiving, as gaining
floor space means that you will lose space on your wall.

Smoke Detector – Your trailer is equipped with a smoke
detector. This unit functions like your unit at home.
Sofas - Westin, J Lounge, U Lounge are all Sofa styles.
While all have a bit different look and vary in price, each
style is a sleeper sofa folding out to make an approximately
twin width bed.

Steps - Steps are an option that can be added to different
locations on your trailer. They are constructed of aluminum
and are normally welded to the side of the trailer. The most
common placement for a step is a living quarter trailer. It
is common to put a fold up step at the escape door and inside
the rear tack. This makes it very easy to get in and out
of your trailer and tack room. The 7’6” wide
trailer comes with running boards making it not necessary
to use steps. Click here for more information.
Stereos – As in homes, stereos in living quarters
can vary greatly. AM/FM radios with both cassette and
CD players are available. Docking stations for MP3
players or Ipods are also options. For those who are
serious about their radio an upgrade to Sirius Satellite
radio is available. As always, brand name stereos are
used based on availability. (back to top)

T
Televisions – Televisions for your living quarters
come in a variety of sizes and styles. Standard flat
front televisions, LCD wall mounted flat screens, LCD flat
screens on arms and LCD flat screens folding down from the
ceiling are all possibilities. Although quality brands
are always used, the brands may vary based on availability.

Tires - Tire brand, rating, and capacities are tremendously important in the reliability of your trailer. 10 Ply and 14 Ply 16" radials are the most common but some larger trailers may require 16-20 ply tires and these normally are 17.5"-22.5" rims. Click here to view a simple way to calculate your trailer axle and tire capacities.
Toilets – Most LQ trailers will have a toilet. Several
styles of toilets are available ranging from RV style regular
toilets to porcelain toilets much like that in a home. Other
options to consider adding to a toilet are a sprayer hose
for easy cleaning and a riser.

W
Water Heaters – All of our LQ trailers are equipped
with either a 6, 10 or 12 gallon water heater. The
water heaters that we offer are gas/electric, which means
they are LP units that start with electricity.
Water Pump – The water pump is a very important part
of the trailer. Without the pump, the sinks, toilet,
and shower will not work. If space is available, we
often place more than one fresh water tank in a trailer. When
this is the case, an additional water pump is needed. Most
water pumps operate a 3.2 gpm, however upgrades are an option.
Window Screens - window screens are often
added to the head side of the trailer to protect your horses
eyes from rocks, bugs, and other debris with an assortment
of different window screens we handle. Click here for more information. (back to top)
