Horses have a 'sweet spot' where the cinch naturally wants to lay. If you aren't sure how to find this sweet spot, look at your horse without a saddle on. Find the narrowest part of your horse's rib cage. Typically that will be about 4" behind his elbow, give or take a couple inches. No matter where you position your saddle, during your ride the cinch will try it's darnedest to migrate to that sweet spot. Do your horse a favor by starting your ride out at the sweet spot to avoid shifting. This will help insure that you have the correct cinch length and that your cinch is just tight enough without being too tight.
