The weather is getting cooler and the roping season is winding down. Some of you are about to hang up your rope bag for the winter and start winterizing your trailers, barn, etc... Why not winterize your ropes?
Cold weather will relax the poly/ nylon fibers in your rope causing them to soften and lose "kick". This will cause a backswing in your $40 rope. Always be sure to store your ropes at room temperature to avoid this! Do not put them too close to the heater though because the hot temperature will cause the poly & nylon to tighten up and make your rope hard.
When storing your ropes in a rope bag, Classic has the following suggestions...
Roll your ropes as big as you can.
Place your hondas on top in the correct position.
Be carefull not to overstuff, because this can put unnecessary pressure on the eyes cuasing them to turn. This can also cause the coils to become bent or kinked.
Powder & store in a cool, dry place.
Now we know sometimes accidents happen and the ropes will get damp, Barry Berg (General Manager of Cactus Ropes) suggests putting water damaged ropes in a cool area & covering them with rope powder.
