Rattler knows that every Calf roper need ropes and strings that are reliable. Whether you're on your first or twenthieth steer, you already know exactly how your tools are going to perform. They are also weather resistant so you don't have to worry about switching lays. Many cowfolks become very attached to the Rattler brand because they know that they can depend on their products. Each rope is carefully made with special industrial materials and has a core that give the rope stability.  Next time you visit Coolhorse, be sure to pick up a Striker or Viper and give them a swing!

Amigo 4-Strand Cactus Team Rope PDF Print
Written by Abby
Friday, 03 February 2012

Cactus' heaviest rope (& one of their toughest), the Amigo, features tall crows for a four-strand. This produces open loops and a very obvious tip feel. The vivid orange color provides high visibility in a variety of roping conditions. The Amigo is their biggest diameter heel rope and is unsurpassed in durability. This full bodied rope is a perfect choice when you're roping big, strong cattle.

"I have tons of confidence when the Amigo is in my hand. It has a little more weight, I can feel my tip a lot more and it stays open, even when I have to force it."- Jake Long, WNFR Qualifier

Polygrass rope size equivalents PDF Print
Written by Stacey Hubbard
Friday, 20 January 2012

Coolhorse was lucky enough to get in a limited supply of BadA$$ Polygrass calf ropes.  This sparked a discussion about measuring sizes on ropes.  Grass and Polygrass ropes are traditionally labeled by size according to the number of strings used to make them.  These particular ropes are 57's, meaning there are 57 strings, or three strands each composed of 19 strings, spun together to make the rope.  Poly calf ropes are traditionally measured by diameter in millimeters and team ropes in fractions of an inch.

With all these different systems, how do you know what size a 57 Polygrass rope will feel like?  We asked local calf ropers and consensus is that this batch of BadAss 57 Polygrass ropes have a diameter similar to a 10.25 poly calf rope, but they are a little denser so the weight is closer than that of a 10.5.

Calf Ropes 101 PDF Print
Written by Abby
Tuesday, 22 November 2011

Today I received an email from a gentleman wanting to know why his Double SS & Viper calf ropes had such a mixed performance. He had gotten quite confused as to what kind of rope to try and wanted to educate himself on the variety.

doublessbycactusropesLet's start with the basics...

3 strand (such as the Double SS)- They are more recommended for beginning ropers because they have larger crowns and are more forgiving. They larger crowns make it easier to feel the tip of your rope.

4 strand- They are more durable and are more tolerant of all types of weather. Since the crowns are smaller, you will get a more snappy feel.

5 strand- As of right now, there is only one on the market but we'll get back to that when we discuss Rattler Calf ropes!
