How to Stretch Your Classic Rope |
|
"I'm having trouble finding a good article on when a rope should be stretched prior to use and how to go about doing so...any suggestions please?" -Melissa, Coolhorse Facebook Friend
"This is a question that is hard to answer as there is no right or wrong way and is more on personal preference. Our ropes do not require to be stretched prior to using. They are ready to use as soon as you un-coil them. However, many people prefer to stretch them before using - some like to stretch a rope right before they use it...others at least 24-48 hrs in advance. This is all personal preference as there is no right or wrong. As far as how to stretch a rope there are several different methods people use. One was is to put the loop end of the rope around a round fence post or something round that is anchored to the ground well, and pulling with your weight to stretch it. Some people prefer to stretch a rope by catching and dallying on a few steers then re-coiling the rope and putting it up for 24-48 hrs. To help with the feel and longevity of a rope we do recommend a rope to be broke in, roping 4-5 steers, coil back up and let it set for 24 hrs before using again." -Matt Smith, Equibrand/ Classic Ropes |
