I’m a cowboy. Professional cowboy. I go to rodeos for a living. I don’t have a real job per say. When I was growing up, I just liked everything that cowboys stood for, the cowboy codes. Manners—Ethics. Just respect. The more concrete they put down around us and the less grass, the more being a cowboy means to me. I had no idea I ‘d be the eleven-time PRCA world champion cowboy.

I’m expected to win when I show up. There’s a lot more pressure on me now that I have been successful to win—to keep winning. And I just can’t lose touch with why I did it in the beginning. To be able to use the talents that God’s given me to reach people. And to let them know that there are cowboys out here that love the Lord.

I remember starting out. Man, it was hard. I wasn’t sure that this is what God had called me to do. I knew I had success in the junior ranks, the college ranks but when I went to the pros, it was a rough couple of years. I battled with that a lot-if this is what I was supposed to do, because you pay your own way around here, and I was running out of funds. Then things just started coming together.

It’s a lot easier for me to know it’s God doing this because I feel like there’s guys that are more physically adept to do what I do. Where I’m weak, He’s strong, and that means in all things.

God loves us so much. He just wants to have a personal relationship with us. He just looks for that daily “I love you.” And thankful heart—just coming to Him with thanksgiving. And I’ve noticed that a lot more now that I’ve got a two year old boy. You know, nothing makes me happier than when he comes to me and hugs me and tells me he loves me. I think God’s the same way. I mean, that’s what we were put here for, is for His purpose and His will. Just to be thankful in all things.

I don’t serve God for success. I serve God because He gave up His son so I would have eternal life with Him in heaven. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters—to just know that your friends, and your family, and yourself are going to be in Heaven because of that sacrifice. And all we have to do is believe. The hard part’s already over.
