We recently had a very interesting order here at Coolhorse. And with my naturally inquisitive nature, I had to find out a little more about it. The order was for Red Cell, a vitamin and iron supplement we normally sell for horses and dogs, but also good for many other animals. I never would have thought to include ELEPHANTS in that list!
I learned from Linda Rochelle, the Elephant Sanctuary's project manager, that the Red Cell was going to be used for two particular pachyderms. Frieda was born in 1966 and is nearly 9 ft. tall. She weighs in at 7,370 pounds. The smaller girl sis Liz. Liz was born in 1957 and is 6,720 lbs and just 8 ft. tall. Each has their own page on the Sanctuary's web site. Click here to see Frieda or visit Liz's page here.
Here is some background for you about the sanctuary. The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennesee, founded in 1995, is the nation's largest natural habitat refuge developed specifically for endangered African and Asian elephants. It operates on 2,700 acres in Hohenwald, Tennessee - 85 miles southwest of Nashville.
