A customer asked me some questions yesterday about rough out leather, and that got me to thinking. I prefer rough out fenders and jockeys on my saddles, but why? And what extra care is required for that rough out leather? So I took a little time and put my thoughts together for her, and I even learned a little more about what roughout leather actually is. I wanted to share that information with you, as well. |

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen says the NFL has told him to tone down his post-sack ritual. Not because it looks silly, although ... According to the Vikings' website, NFL players can not engage in celebrations while on the ground, and Allen's knee touches the ground as he pretends to rope a calf after a sack. Although Allen has been celebrating in the same way for years, he says he was just informed of the rule prior to the Vikings' last game. Allen has one sack this season and 73 in his seven-year NFL career. -- Chuck Schilken - LA Times | Watch the Controversial Video |

Did you know that calf roping derived from the working cowboy? Cowboys would catch their calves by throwing a lasso around the calf’s neck and quickly dismount their horse in order to brand or administer medical treatment to their calves. Soon they began having contests to see who could do it with the fastest time… Sound familiar? |

Callaway has been setting the standard for American-made ropes for over 35 years. In keeping with their family values and traditions, they continue to introduce new developments in roping. Coolhorse is proud to incorporate Callaway ropes into our calf rope line. "We have such strong ties to calf ropers we've been trying to expand our calf roping products including ropes and strings. The Callaway rope came up in quite a few conversations when talking to fellow ropers and the more we looked into it we new they would be a perfect fit for our customers." - Stacey, Coolhorse Tack Manager View our Callaway Calf Ropes |

Caring for your leather splints, skids and more! Cleaning: Like all leather tack items, boots should be cleaned and checked after each use to increase longevity and avoid any accidents caused by natural wear. The leather exterior and inner foam liner should be wiped clean with a cloth to remove all dirt and sweat. A soft brush can also be used to whisk away debris if necessary. Oiling: Exposure to the elements can cause leather products to break down over time. To increase the durability and the lifespan of the boots, oil at least every 6 months to replace the natural oil that is lost during the tanning process. |
