What are Classic Equine Saddle Shims, and How Do You Use Them?

Classic Equine Saddle Shims in Place Under a Barrel Saddle

Classic Equine Saddle Shims are used to help fit your saddle to the different back shapes of your horses. Horses backs change as they gain or lose weight and also as they age. Classic's shims are made of a tapered wedge closed cell foam and the package comes with 2 (5" x 24 1/4") and 1 (3 3/4" x 24 1/4") shims.

Shims should be placed just under the front of the saddle and on top of the saddle pad. This allows your saddle to sit more level on your horse's back and evens out the weight distribution. Doing this helps to keep your horse from becoming sore in his back and possibly developing sores.
